Roman Coin Data
Information on the Geospatial Data
The data presented here has been compiled from digitally aggregated research, reference and secondary data from various freely accessible sources. These sources generally allow reuse under appropriate open licences, such as the Open Data Commons Open Database License (ODbL), CC0, CC BY 3.0 and similar licences.
Important sources include, for example:
- Online Coins of the Roman Empire (OCRE) – an open-access scholarly database for Roman imperial coinage.
- Coinage of the Roman Republic Online (CRRO) – a major online reference for Roman Republican coinage.
- Vici.org – a historical map wiki, particularly useful for locating Roman sites.
- Nomisma.org Data and Nomisma.org Datasets .
Each record contains source information, usually in the field source, allowing the origin of the data to be traced.
Additional find spots and related data can also be submitted via our contact page: Contact Charta Thesauri .

Important Notes on Data Quality and Accuracy
Not every record contains complete information. The scope and completeness of the individual fields vary depending on the available source material. There is no claim that all fields are complete for every record.
The data does not constitute an official register, a scientifically finalised reference work or legally binding information.
Coordinates may be rounded, generalised, approximated or derived from secondary sources. Find spots may be imprecisely located due to the available data, source limitations, generalisation or protection requirements.
The spatial information is not suitable for surveying, property-related, heritage-law, approval-related or other official decisions.
